Localisation of software

The localisation of a product is the key to its success in the local market.

International companies usually carry out localisation of information relevant to the infrastructure when promoting products intended for mass consumption.

Local departments of international companies are often supplied with localised corporate software which takes into account the characteristics of the local market and the law.

The top-priority task when localising software is to provide support for language and national standards.

In order for a software product to function successfully in another country it is necessary to consider the screen output of language symbols, inputting text, alphabetical lists, take into account the format of dates, times, commonly used separators for fractions and multi-ciphered numbers, systems of measurement and more.

It is also necessary to:

  • produce documentation for the software product in the target language;
  • translate interface texts while considering the size of the text fields and direction of the text (for example from right to left in Hebrew;)
  • correctly translate terminology;
  • translate and reproduce any speech fragments of the software;
  • take into consideration cross-cultural differences etc.
